Indians in the United States and what they miss about India?
When we move to another country, be it for work, studies or otherwise, the feeling of homesickness does set in at some point. What is it that Indians abroad miss about home?
I am an Indian living in America. I have been here for over four years now. When I first moved here, I thought America was a very beautiful place full of abundance in every aspect. The tall buildings, the people, the food and the scenic locations, everything was enticing for me initially. However, after living here for a while, I realized there are some things that I miss dearly about India.
Food
The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of India is the food. And yes, Indian food is amazing! I simply can never get bored of the variety and taste of Indian food no matter how many times I have the same dish.
Fashion
Fashion in India is a way of life and I really miss wearing Indian because when you live abroad, you may not know the language or be able to attend Indian events, but if you’re invited at a friend’s casual get-together or you’re inviting people at home or you’re home watching DDLJ or want to dance on say Taal se Taal mila, you want your authentic Indian Culture vibes on, isn’t it!? You want to be dressed in Indian wear whenever you want to be in your Desi avatar as it's very much a part of your identity and you don’t want to change it for any reason, whatsoever!
Thanks to Deviee.com, this website fulfills my desire to buy great quality Indian clothing and exquisite jewelry from authentic sources at quite affordable rates! It’s definitely my one stop shop for finding the best of Indian Fashion and the deals I find here are simply amazing compared to everywhere else I tried my luck!

Family
Another thing that I miss from India is its culture and traditions which have been passed down from one generation to another through our ancestors including our lovely dear grandparents. There are days when I literally feel as if my parents and grandparents are waiting for me to come back home so they can tell me everything that's happening that they may not share on phone calls.
When you are far away from your family and friends, you miss them a lot. You miss their company and hear them talk about how much they miss you as well. You wish that you were there with them instead of being miles away from them. You wish that you were back home in India again so that you could be with your loved ones once again!
Most of us, who have been living abroad for a while, can relate to this. I am sure many of us have experienced this sense of longing and missing something from our childhood homes.
Festivals
A festival is more than just an event of the year. It's the time for reuniting with friends and family, a break from the routine, the occasion of getting in touch with our sweet tooth and a great excuse to dress well and flaunt your new bling jewelry. Overall, festivals bring in renewed energy to our home.
In India, any day is a good day to have a party. Weekend or weeknight, it doesn't matter! There is always a function to attend, whether it's a wedding, festival, holiday, birthday, anniversary or just a friendly get-together. Abroad, we create such occasions, small or big, as an excuse to get all out, deck up and meet your near and dear ones.
